Outcome of the fifth meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics

Brussels, 22 November 2023

The fifth meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics (CWPS) under the Spanish Presidency took place on Wednesday 22 November 2023 and it was chaired by Ms Elena Manzanera, President of the National Statistics Institute.

The first part of the meeting was devoted to the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European statistics on population and housing, amending Regulation (EC) No 862/2007 and repealing Regulations (EC) No 763/2008 and (EU) No 1260/2013. The Presidency debriefed the delegates on the state of play of the negotiations in trilogues, and shared with the Member States the main issues that are on the table. Delegates shared their views and discussed on the aspects presented by the Presidency, recalling which are the red lines of the Council mandate.

The meeting continued with the presentation by the Commission of the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European Union labour market statistics on businesses, repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 530/1999 and Regulations (EC) No 450/2003 and (EC) No 453/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council. Afterwards, the delegates initiated the discussions of the proposal, starting with article 1 and it was possible to review until article 4.6.

Before concluding the meeting, the Chair briefly informed about the state of play of other statistical dossiers, especially as regards regulation 223/2009 and European environmental economic accounts (EEEA).
