Welcome to the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council on statistics

During the second semester of 2023, Spain will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). A new Trio of Presidencies will start as well, together with Belgium and Hungary, which will conclude by December 2024.

On the statistical domain, the Trio will aim at responding adequately to a broad range of users’ needs, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by new data sources and technologies and ensuring the production of high-quality statistics.

During our Presidency, the Council Working Party on Statistics will focus on the analysis of the proposals presented by the European Commission, taking into account the priorities foreseen on the Presidency Trio Programme and the priorities of our Presidency.

INE Spain considers it important that users and informants of official statistics, as well as the society as a whole, have a better understanding of the functioning of the European Statistical System (ESS). This way, INE will share updated information about the main milestones and advancements achieved as regards European statistics. In line with the initiatives of the Spanish Presidency and with the aim of bringing Europe closer to the people, the INE will organize a meeting of the ESS in Seville, to discuss aspects related to the future of official statistics in the EU.
